Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Augusta Jessie' arriving 3 Dec 1838. Ship surgeon's report: "well conducted & useful". Single man; aged 28yrs; engineer; dark complexion; dark brown hair; grey eyes; tatoos. Native plce of birth: Warrington, England. (ref. convict records) VDL: Assigned to work services 28 Jan 1841: Disorderly conduct in the line of his duties. 6 mths hard labour at the House of Correction. 1 Jan 1844: Ticket of Leave granted. 20 Jan 1849: Free Certificate issued. 8 March 1849: Launceston S.C. Assaulting a Constable. 12 mths imprisonment.
