Family connections for Margaret (Edwards) are: EDWARDS Margaret (Edwards) was born about 1782. She was tried for stealing a cotton gown etc at Shropshire Assizes in April 1797, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 7 1798 after a voyage of 6months on BRITANNIA. She had a first relationship with James (Pooley).>>> [Some details taken from this Website; where a Martha (Edwards) is also found] James (Pooley) arrived in Australia as a convict in 1798 on BARWELL. James (Pooley) does not have an entry on this Website as yet; although a Samuel (Pooley) is on the BARWELL Margaret (Edwards) & James (Pooley) produced 1child: 1.Edward (Pooley) was born on 24 7 1800 & baptised on 9 2 1800 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. .. >>>Margaret (Edwards) is recorded as washerwoman for Jos. Burns at Parramatta-away from her husband. She had a second relationship with/stated to have married St John (seemingly-actually John Sr.) (Hannaway/Hannabas) in 1800, but not shown in Smees records, settled at Pitt Town & produced 7more children. She was Free by Servitude by 1807. She died in 1846 age64 mother of 8known children. St John (seemingly-actually John Sr.) (Hannaway/Hannabas) was born about 1770. He was gaoled for 2months & later tried w/1other for burglary & separately for stealing Easter offering of Halberton Devon at Devon Assizes on 30 6 1792, sentenced to death reprieved to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 2 6 1797 after a voyage of 9months on GANGES. He was Free by Servitude by 1804. He is recorded in 1828 as labourer for David (Horton at Pitt Town-away from his wife. He died in 1847 age77. "Aris's Birmingham Gazette 3 April 1797 - .......John Marsh Jnr and Thomas Morris for stealing ten pigs from Mr Roden of Egmond; John Jones for stealing six pigs from the House of Industry at Ellesmere; Edward Gears for stealing one sow pig, the property of John Roe of Oldbury and Margaret Edwards for stealing, a cotton gown and other articles, are to be transported for seven years each."
Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref H0456] Hannabus, Magt, 46, free by servitude, Britannia, 1798, 7 years, Catholic, washerwoman, Jos. Burns Parramatta. (Clearly Margaret and John are not together at this stage he is listed elsewhere. [Ref H0411] Hannibus, John Sr. 58 free by servitude, Ganges, 1797, life, labourer to David Horton Pitt Town. Several of the children are also listed with their families.
In the colony Margaret soon developed a relationship with John Hannibus (Convict, Ganges, 1797). They may have been married but no records have been located. The couple had 7 children.
