Winter Assizes. —Our Correspondent at Stafford sends us a report of the trial on Monday last of Edward Picken, aged 17 years, charged with feloniously setting fire to a hay-rick, the property of Mr. Henry Southwick, at Brewood, on the 29th of October, but we have only room for a short statement. He was found guilty, with a recommendation to mercy, and was sentenced to fifteen yc-Rrs' transportation. On the verdict being returned, the prisoner, notwithstanding the clearest proof against him, exclaimed, The Lord in Heaven knows I am innocent. Hereford Journal, 3 Jan 1844.
