Eliza Moran was transported on the Margaret, departing 1st Sep 1838 and arriving 5th Jan 1839 with 170 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

Convict Notes
The convict indentures state that Eliza Moran was 30 years old. She could read; religion Roman Catholic; status married with 2 son and 1 daughter and a native of Dublin. She was a house servant. Eliza was convicted on 3 March 1838 at Dublin City and sentenced for 10 years for base coin. She had two prior conviction and served 12 months and 6 months. Physical attributes: height 4 feet 11 3/4 inches; complexion fair ruddy and freckled; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 53. Prisoner number 52-39. Received Certificate of Freedom in 1849 (number 49/136). Comment on indenture entry stated that her husband Thomas Moran was a prisoner for 7 years, 3 years ago.
