Family connections for Richard (Ellem) are: ELLEM Richard (Ellem/Allam) son of John (Ellem) & Jane (???) was born on 1 6 1800 at Warrington Lancashire. He was a labourer at Nether Alderley Cheshire when tried w/others for stealing a plough beam etc of Sir John Thoms (Stanley) & others at Chester city Quarter Sessions in October 1817, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 9 1818 after a voyage of 5months on ISABELLA: he was 5'8.5". He was assigned to Richard (Kelly) at Lower Portland Head. He was issued his Ticket of Leave no.496 in March 1823 & moved to Hawkesbury. On 17 2 1825 he was issued a licence no.083/3206. He had a relationship with Charlotte/Charlotte Ellen (Huxley her third relationship). In 1831 he was a farmer. He was Free by Servitude by 1827. He died on 14 11 1857 age57 at Mangrove Creek & was buried there. [Some details taken from this Website[ Charlotte/Charlotte Ellen (Huxley) was born in 1802. She married firstly (1of3) James (Neale his first) on 5 7 1819 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She had a second (2of3) relationship with Francis (De Silvre). She died on 30 11 1885 age about83 mother of at least 15children-mostly boys. Details of Charlotte (Huxley)s family are given in entry for Thomas (Huxley SALAMANDER 1791) on this Website. Richard ELLEM, convict Place of Burial: Mangrove Creek Cemetery Birth: June 1, 1800 Warrington, Lancashire, England Death: November 14, 1857 (57) Mangrove Creek, NSW, Australia Immediate Family: Son of John Ellem and Jane Ellem Husband of Charlotte Ellem Father of George Ellem; Ann Parry; Richard Ellem; John Ellem; Eliza Hough (Ellem); William Ellem; James Ellem; Frederick Richard Ellem; Thomas Ellem; Isaac Thomas Ellem; Samuel Henry Ellem and Fredrick Ellem Richard Ellem (described as 17 years and 5 months, 5 ft 81/2 inches in height, a labourer late of Nether Alderley, Cheshire) was charged at the Cheshire Quarter Sessions in October 1817. He was charged along with others of the larceny of a plough beam, 4 cast iron moulds, 100 lbs of wrought iron, the property of Sir John Thomas Stanley, Samuel Dodge, Jonathon Stackhouse and William Horne. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation (the minimum), despite being listed as "of very bad character" He was one of 230 male prisoners on board the Isabella. The master of the voyage was Robert Berry. They sailed from Spithead on 3rd April 1818 in a convoy of West Indiamen. Sailing via Rio de Janeiro, they arrived in Sydney on 14 September after a voyage of 164 days. 3 convicts died on the way out. Richard was assigned to work for Richard Kelly on his property at Lower Portland Head. In 1823, Richard Kelly wrote an affadavit stating " Richard Ellem, a convict of 7 years, had not been convicted of any crime or misdemeanour in these districts...but is an honest, sober and industrious character, having served faithfully..." Richard received his ticket of leave (#496) in March 1823 and moved to the Hawkesbury.
