Convict Notes
Ellen Hinchy was 24 years old on arrival and was transported for ‘Stealing a dish of steaks. Ellen was 5’1½” tall, brown hair, grey eyes, mole on right arm, fair complexion, a widow with 1 child. Her native place was Limerick. 2/7/1842: Absconding and being drunk – sentence extended 6 months and returned to the Government. 2/8/1842: Returned to the crown being pregnant. 9/1/1843: AWOL – 6 months hard labour in the House of Correction at Cascades FF – Nursery. 31/1/1845: Permission to marry George Browne (free). She was then assigned to her husband. 19/7/1847: Birth of daughter, Mary Ann Browne district of Launceston. 1/10/1848: Certificate.
