Massey, Port Dalrymple. The Government Messenger left town accompanied with Entwistle, and swam the river on his mare with the greatest difficulty, owing to the rapidity of the current, which was occasioned by an unexpected fall of rain from the adjacent mountains. The unfortunate man followed on an entire horse, who when in the current plunged to such a degree that Entwistle was thrown and never since heard of. This accident is particularly melancholy, owing to the universal respect and esteem in which this young man was held by the inhabitants of this Colony. We have to record that the Coroner of the county (T. Archer) gave every direction (?) respecting the recovery of the body, which when the messenger left the settlement was unavailable.” (Source: Hobart Town Gazette, 01/02/1817, p2) 1818, 18 April – Another letter was waiting for Ann at the Post Office. Jennifer Burgess's information is incorrect - the Ann Entwistle she refers to was convicted in 1814, not 1826/7 - see https://search.records.nsw.gov.au/primo-explore/fulldisplay?context=L&vid=61SRA&lang=en_US&docid=INDEX240022

Ann wasn't given a conditional pardon until 1847, but before that, It appears Ann Entwistle applied & was allowed to re-marry a Richard Birking in 1838 - the paperwork shows "spinster" but beneath the entry it shows "married with 2 children"!!! (her conviction entry showed 3 children). https://search.records.nsw.gov.au/primo-explore/fulldisplay?context=L&vid=61SRA&lang=en_US&docid=INDEX2227999 https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=ANZ/AUSREC/713/00350&parentid=ANZ/CONV-APP-MARRY/4934/1
