She was born in England according to 1841 England census and her mother and brother were born in Ireland. She married convict Samuel Withers in Hobart in 1849. Ticket of leave 1850.
Anastasia Splain was orginally from Ireland and moved to Bristol because of the potato blight. She was one of the first women on the Ballarat Goldfields and is credited with having assisted in sewing the Eureka Flag. She and her husband settled in Victoria, established a General Store and Orchard (named Bristol Orchard) they raised nine children.
