1818 - Trial; 2 December 1818 [Central Criminal Court - Old Bailey] Born; 1792. Tried; 2 December 1818. Tried at Old Bailey, London. Accused of theft from a specified place (stealing, on the 19th of November, at St. Giles's in the fields, 5 lbs. of fur, value 3 l. 15 s., the goods of Robert Hankes , in his dwelling-house). Found guilty. Sentenced to death. 1819 - 10 February. Sentence Respited 1819 - 17 March. Received on board the prison hulk; Leviathan. Moored; Portsmouth Age; 26 years - born about 1793 Transported; 20 April 1819 Offence; Felony 1838 - Died; 5 August 1838 [noted against name on the Transportation Register]
The John Barry had arrived at Portsmouth on 16 April 1819 and on 20 April, 60 male convicts were embarked from the hulk Laurel and 80 from the hulk Leviathan in Portsmouth harbour. On 23 April 1819 two more convicts were sent on board the John Barry from the Leviathan. One of the passengers on board the John Barry was John Thomas Bigge, New South Wales’ first Royal Commissioner. The John Barry finally arrived at Port Jackson on Sunday 26 September 1819 (See The Campbelltown Convicts).
