Thomas EVANS was convicted at the CCC, London on 25 Nov 1839 for stealing from the person - a bag from a lady's arm. 10yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Mandarin' 1840. Single man; aged 19yrs; farm labourer; 5'1"; Protestant; can read & write. Native place: Liverpool, England. 15 mths Probation Period. 28 Nov 1845: Ticket of Leave Granted, at Longford. 22 Aug 1848: Conditional Pardon granted. Departure from VDL to Portland Bay, Victoria per ship 'John' 13 Oct 1848 from Launceston. Noted on record his ship to Colony 'Mandarin'. Passenger. Status - Conditional Pardon (ref.
