The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Same day William Eyres and Matthew Baker were committed, to the said gaol, charged on suspicion of stealing one ewe sheep, the property of R. Lyne Durham, of Lyneham  Oxford University and City Herald, 5 Nov 1814. WILLIAM EYRES, aged 35, and MATTHEW BAKER, aged 23, charged with feloniously stealing a ewe sheep, the property of Robert Lyne Durham, of Lyneham..— Guilty, Death.— Reprieved. Oxford University and City Herald, 11 March 1815.
