The ship 'Globe' was built in Scarborough, England in 1810. 363 tons. Rig Type S. Transported 140 male convicts (1 death recorded) from Portsmouth, England, departing September 1818, route Madeira, to Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia. Arrived 8 January 1819. Master Joseph Blythe. Surgeon George Clayton. Several youths onboard. Many of the men had been held on the Hulks 'Captivity' & 'Laurel' where they had lessons to improve their literary and Bible studies. A Guard of the 34th Regiment and some wives accompanied them. There was also listed 4 or 5 free passenters. About 84 of the convicted men were later transferred to Port Dalyrmple (George Town), Van Diemen's Land in the February of that year, per the ship 'Elizabeth & Henrietta'.

Old Bailey: CHARLES FAREY, Theft > theft from a specified place, 3rd December 1817. Reference Number: t18171203-6 Offence: Theft > theft from a specified place Verdict: Guilty > lesser offence Punishment: Transportation CHARLES FAREY was indicted for stealing, on the 27th of November, in the dwelling-house of Thomas Husband, two 1l. bank notes, his property. THOMAS HUSBAND. I keep a coal and potatoe warehouse in Tower-street. On the 27th of November I employed the prisoner at my house - He dined with me and my wife; when we were at dinner I put my purse on the table, and told my wife to put it away, but she did not-there was 12l. in it; next day I missed two 1l. notes out of it, and went to look for the prisoner. I found him at St. Andrew's-street, he took a 1l. note out of his pocket and gave it to me; it was one of the notes that I had lost out of my purse. WILLIAM STEPHENS. I am a constable. I took the prisoner in charge. Prisoner's Defence. Distress drove me to do it. GUILTY. Aged 17. Of Stealing only. Transported for Seven Years. Charles Farey/Fairy was 18 years old on arrival in NSW. Colonial Secretary Papers: FAIRY, Charles. Per "Globe", 1819 1819 Jan 30: On list of convicts transhipped from the "Globe" to the "Elizabeth Henrietta" & forwarded to Port Dalrymple (Reel 6006; 4/3499 p.298) Charles was 5’ 2 ½” tall, with brown hair and eyes. 1825: Free by Servitude. 10/6/1834: Launceston QS - Charles Farey, convicted of stealing 500 bricks, the property of John Anderson Brown; to be transported for seven years. 1835: Transported to Port Arthur. 1841: Free Certificate 25/12/1884: Charles died of Senilis, aged 73??(should be more like 84, but I do have a birth date of 1811 also, which would have made him 9 years old when transported) at the Newtown Charitable Institution and was buried on the 27/12/1884 at the Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Paupers section.
