Daughter of John Falkard (shown as FOKET on her Death Certificate) from Sussex. On 23 July 1812 Jane was indicted for stealing £35.00.00 contained in a red leather pocket book from John Buck, Dunwich. "Suffolk Chronicle" A Whitehall document, dated 10.8.1812, states that Jane Falkard and others had been sentenced to death at the last Assizes for the Norfolk Circuit tried at Sufolk on Thursday 23July 1812. Jane Falkard guilty of stealing in a "dwelling house property above the value of 40/-." Her sentence was commuted to transportation beyond the seas for the term of seven years. (Index of Goal Delivery for the Norfolk Circuit 1812 PRO. R. 3082 at pp 221-2. On 3 July 1813 the Ipswich Gazette reports "that Sunday last Jane Falkard boarded the "Wanstead" lying at Blackwall." The "Wanstead"departed Spithead, England 24 August 1813. Jane arrived in Sydney, accompanied by a child Thomas born 1813 who died 1 March 1814, on the 'Wanstead' on 9 January 1814 (Macquarie Despatch No 1190 at p. 248). The 13 January 1814 finds Jane on list of women prisoners from the "Wanstead" sent to Parramatta; listed as Falkerd (Reel 6004; 4/3493 p.12 - see also Reel 1028 p.12) Jane received a Ticket of leave and Absolute Pardon (No 1668) T/L: No. 2566 Absolute Pardon No. 1668. Married John Smith "Indian" 13 June 1814 at St Johns Church Parramatta NSW by Rev Samuel Marsden
