Colonial Secretary Index. FARLEY, Jane. 1824 Dec 24 - Prostitute; sentenced to the Factory for 28 days. On return of fines and punishments in the Police Office (Reel 6023; 4/6671 p.104) ----------------------------------------------------- Janith Glanlees, and Jane Farley, assigned government servants, were charged on Wednesday with being found in the streets, when in a state of intoxication — the assigned master being unwilling to dispense with their services for any considerable time, consented to allowing both a quiet "set down" in the stocks for two hours. The Australian, 22 July 1826. -------------------------------------------------- Jane Farley was found drunk on the streets last night, and her husband being sent for, he stated, that he had done every thing in his power to correct the pernicious properties of his wife, but in vain. She was in the habit of remaining from home for days in a state of intoxication. The prisoner shook violently from the effects of former inebriety, and was obliged to be supported to a seat. Capt. Rossi, after sharply animadverting on the shocking effects of drunkenness, sentenced the prisoner to 3 months in No. 3 Class of the Factory. Sydney Gazette, 16 Dec 1826.
