Colonial Secretary Index. FARRELL, Garrett. Per "John Barry", 1821. 1821 Nov 9 On list of convicts landed from the "John Barry" and forwarded to Windsor for distribution (Reel 6008; 4/3504A p.38) 1823 Jul 15 On lists of prisoners transported to Port Macquarie per "Sally" (Reel 6019; 4/3864 pp.59, 414-5) 1825 Aug 31 Assigned to Dr Moran (Reel 6069; 4/1816 p.389) ------------------------------------------------- 15 July 1823. On lists of prisoners transported to Port Macquarie per "Sally" Garrett Farrell, per John Barry (2), Tried at Windsor, by Jno. Brabyn, Esq. two years sentence, on 28 June 1823. Date of Return: 30 Aug 1825, Assigned to Dr Moran of Newcastle. This probably relates to this man. Garrett Farrell, prisoner for life, and Bernard Slaven, prisoner for 7 years, having been apprehended at the Lower Branch, voluntarily confessed they were runaways from a road party between Wallis Plains and Newcastle, about 11 miles from the latter place. Farrell said he had absconded because he had but a very small ration; viz 7 pounds of flour, and 7 pounds of beef; Slaven, because, having been apprehended for drunkenness, he was by the Magistrates ordered into government employ, there being no person on the farm to give him a character, and he thought therefore he would proceed to Wilberforce in the habit of a bushranger, to procure a character from his master, who resided at that place. A small shred, by way extract, from a certain book in the Windsor Court, would have saved him all that trouble and fatigue. Ordered to be returned via Sydney. Sydney Gazette, 5 Aug 1826.
