Richard Ferguson and Edward Stewart were central to a BBC series titled "A house through time" Series 1 episode 1.




Newcastle Courant 8 Aug 1835. Richard Ferguson, aged 14, a Mulatto, and Edward Stuart(sic) 14 another boy, were next charged with having on the 31st July last, stolen two umbrellas the property of Mr William Stoker, of the Westgate, It appears from the evidence, that the prisoners were seen going in the direction of Mr Stokers house, and soon after returned with two umbrellas in their posession, one of which they sold to a person named Jane Gow, of Stepney Bank, for 1s.6d. and the other to Barbara Pearson, of Catterick Buildings, Shields Road for 1s. and a piece of bread. The umbrellas were produced, and sworn to by Mr Stoker's servant. Guilty, to be transported 7 years. Also see Edward Stewart.
