"He is my 5x great grandfather. His surname has been incorrectly transcribed in one source as Fernce instead of Fernee. Multiple sources correctly record his surname as Fernee or variations of this (Furnee, Furney, Ferney etc)."

Convict Notes




Baptised 21 January 1781 at St Ebbe Oxford. Convicted January 1809 of having burglariously breaking open the dwelling place of John Hayes and stealing diverse articles including bacon, beef, pickled pork, half a head of a pig and coins. In 1812 he was married in Parramatta by Rev Samuel Marsden to another convict named Mary Clare. Joseph was given a ticket of leave for Parramatta in 1833, and by 1839 this was altered to Windsor. In January 1844 Joseph was working for local surgeon Dr Henry White in George Street Windsor. Joseph died after being kicked by a horse. He was buried at St Matthew's Anglican Windsor, erroneously under his wife's surname, as Joseph Clair.
