The "Hercules" ship was built in 1801 at South Sheilds, England. 1801 voyage from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia. Sailed via Rio de Janeiro and the Cape. A mutiny occurred just prior to their arrival at Rio - after 45 minutes it was quashed but 13 convicts had been killed. Jeremiah Pendergass was named as the ring leader and shot. 44 deaths in total on this voyage. There was then another ship, also named, "Hercules" built 1822 at Whitby, England who made 3 trips to Austraia, in 1825, 1830 & 1832.

War Office Records. Registers Court Martial. Private John Finlan, 64th Regt, Tried at Dublin, 1 July 1829, for Desertion & inducing another to Desert. Sentence: Transportation for as a felon for 14 years & sent to NSW; Case sent 6 Aug1829 for confirmation before the King.

General Courts Martial, Registers John Finlan, 64th Regt, Tried Dublin, 1 July 1829, Proceedings presented before the King, 6 Aug 1829. Charge: Desertion & inducing another to Desert. Sentenced to be to Transportation as a felon for 14 years to NSW. to N S.W. Michael Maher, also from 64th Regt, was sentenced for the same crime on the same date and received the same sentence. He arrived on the same ship.
