Joseph Finnegan was 18 years old on arrival in NSW. Transported for 'Stealing Handkerchiefs. Occupation: Painters boy. 26/11/1845: Arrived VDL per 'Lady Franklin'. Then described as: 28 years old, a labourer, 5'2ΒΌ" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, woman with flower in hand, B R on inside right arm below elbow, scar on 2nd finger right hand, ####, sun anchor half moon 2 flags 2 fishes on left arm below elbow. 23/1/1849: TOL 20/9/1850: Larceny - TOL revoked 22/10/1850. 8/6/1867: Absconding in 1851, one month hard labour. 2/7/1867: TOL granted.




Assigned to Mr James Wright at Lanyon Station near Queanbeyan now the southern part of Canberra, ACT. Absconded from Mr Wright in 1839 with William Dawkins (Lady Nugent); John Ward (Susan) and Mr George King (Hive). Admitted to Sydney Harbour from Campbell Town on 28 January 1840. They were tried in Jan/February 1840 for being at large with fire arms. Guilty and sentenced to Penal Settlement for Life. Transported to Norfolk Island on 19 February 1840. From the Entrance Book Joseph Finnigan was of Slender build; 5 ft 3inches; Complexion Sallow; Dark hair and Grey eyes: Religion: Catholic; Occupation: Painter and a native of Dublin.
