Tried and convicted at the Salop Assizes, Shropshire on 17th March 1824, sentenced to transportation for life. Left England on 13th July 1824. Ship:- the 'Mangles' sailed with 190 male convicts on board, there were no recorded deaths during the voyage. Arrived on 27th October 1824. William worked for the Hume family, particularly Francis Rawdon Hume, on their estates at Appin, NSW, it was there that he met convict Sarah Drake ('Pyramus' 1831), she also worked for the family. William and Sarah married on 12th November 1832 at Liverpool NSW, they had 5 children between 1832-1842. They moved to Gunning when the Hume family moved their farming operations to the land grants they received in the Yass/Gunning area from the late 1830's. He was granted a conditional pardon in May 1840 requiring him to work for the Hume family and remain in that immediate area. He received his ticket of leave in September 1842. In 1865 William received a land grant of 40 acres where he settled, extended his land holdings and stayed for the remainder of his life. Sarah died in 1869 in Yass, NSW age 64, and in 1872 William married Elizabeth Bulley, a widow from Dalton, another old name from the district. William died in 1899 at Gunning ,NSW age 95.
