25/7/1838 Kerry Evening Post Kerry, Republic of Ireland: At Waterford Assizes this week, the fallowing convictions were recorded :—Cornelius Fitzgerald, killing his wife, when in a state of pregnancy. 21/7/1838 Waterford Mail Waterford, Republic of Ireland: Cornelius Fitzgerald, manslaughter—to be transported for 14 years. 8/7/1839: Convict Death Record states Cornelius was 25 years old.

Cornelius suffered pneumonia when in Kilmainham jail and was sent directly to the hospital on board. In an effort to improve his health he was given food from the Captain's table and was carefully nursed the entire voyage. He had a great desire for potatoes and given 3 or 4 daily by the doctor. He was discharged to the hospital in Sydney on arrival and died there in 1839 Death: Sydney General Hospital Trial Date: 16 July 1838
