Maiden name was Jane Carroll or Jane Taylor Married a Fitzgerald and was a widow when transported. Married John Edward Hides in 1845




The Convict Indentures states that Jane Fitzgerald was 20 years old. She could not read or write; religion Roman Catholic; status widow and a native of Dublin. She was a child's maid. Jane was convicted of stealing pork at Dublin City on 22 September 1837 and sentenced to 7 years transportation. She had two prior convictions and served 7 months and 6 months. Physical attributes: height 5 feet 2 1/4 inches; complexion pale and a little freckled; hair dark brown and eyes light brown. Transport number 23. Prisoner number 23-38.
