ADM 101/21/7A/61818-1819 Journal of the Convict Ship Earl St Vincent for 22 July 1818 to 15 January 1819 by John Johnson, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed on a voyage to New South Wales. Folio 1: 22 July 1818; at Cave, embarked one hundred and sixty convicts under inspection of Dr Trevor, stripped them of all their clothing and gave them new, many cases of ulcered leg and other local diseases among them, allowed them all to be on deck till the setting of the watch. Folio 1: 23 July 1818; at Cove, made official application to Dr Trevor for lint calico and itch ointment. Folio 1: John Fitzgerald, taken ill at Cove, sick or hurt; ulcered leg at present sloughing, taken ill on 23 July 1818. -------------------------------------------------- The cases of ulcerated legs were probably due to the prisoners being confined in irons for a long time.
