Margaret FITZGERALD was convicted at Kerry on 20 March 1849 for stealing six sheep. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Australasia' arriving 29 Sept 1849. Her sister Johanna Fitzgerald was also convicted and transported on same ship. Aged 17yrs; single woman; 4'8 1/4"; Roman Catholic. Native place - Co. Kerry, Ireland. Sisters: Catherine, Mary & Johanna Brother: Edward Probation period in Colony at 'Anson' hulk. Work services. 23 Nov 1852: Ticket of Leave granted. 29 Aug 1854: Conditional Pardon granted. 8 Apr 1853: Application for Permission to Marry - to William WOOD. Approved. 4 May 1853: Married William WOOD, Parish Church, Hobart. William - full age, farmer, bachelor. Margaret - full age, spinster. (ref. 37/1/12 no. 557)
