____________________ PETITION IN IRELAND, AFTER TRIAL Straight after his trial John Flaherty lodged a petition for himself. [REF: Ireland-Australian transportation Database Prisoners Petitions no PPC3152]. Petition dated 14th August 1827 stating that he has a wife who is pregnant and two children.

John FLAHERTY was found guilty of “murder, manslaughter” according to indent of “Borodino” on which he was transported for 7 years. Tried Ennis, County Clare on 2 August 1827, aged 25 years. From Indent: *could read . Catholic. Married with 2 children. * no prior convictions. * Native of Co Clare, ploughman and herdsman. * 5ft 6” tall, pockpitted complexion, Brown hair and grey eyes. 5 scars (?) of cald (?)on top of head. Face xxx (?) Scar on Left jaw. * Disposed of from ship to J P Webber, "Penshurst", Patersons River. The Hunter Valley property he was assigned to: JOHN PHILLIPS WEBBER arrived in NSW on the ship Hugh Crawford in late 1826 and in January 1827 was granted 2,560 acres on the Paterson River. He named his grant "Penshurst" in honour of his first cousin who had recently become the first Baron of Penshurst in Britain. His brother James Phillips Webber was already at the Paterson River on the huge estate of "Tocal", having arrived in 1822. Nov 1828 CENSUS: Stockman to J P Webber at "Penshurst" Pattersons River.
