Charles FLATT was convicted at the CCC, London on 4 July 1842 for Burglary (also charged with him was William GORDON and John LEE). 15 yr transportation sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Triton' arriving 19 Dec 1842. Single; aged 18yrs; carpenter; can read & write; Protestant. Native place - Hampton, London. Father - James Mother - Marion (at Leicester Square, London) Sisters - Marion, Jane, Lucy & Mary Brother - John, William and James 3 yr Probation Period. Stationed at Sarah Island (harsh penal settlement, south west of Macquarie Harbour on the west coast of Tasmania). Later moved back to main settlements including Cascades (south Hobart) and Bothwell. Ticket of Leave granted 18 Sept 1849. 26 Nov 1850 Application for permission to Marry: to Agnes MILLER (transported per 'Asia' 1847). Approved. 23 Dec 1850: Married Agnes MILLER at St. George's Church of England, Hobart. 20 March 1852: Conditional Pardon approved.
