John Flood who married Mary Ann Ryan and died at Forbes NSW could not read or write used a x to mark his name on their marriage cert. Was Catholic and married at St Mary's Sydney in 1852 and of irish nationalty.

Thanks D. Wong. Have taken a look at John Flood digitized indent. Pretty difficult to read but think declared age on departure was 24. The age of John FLOOD who married Mary Ann Ryan was 34 and she was 20. There were several Mary Ryan's who arrived on the Lady Peel but one I have definitely ticks with being the spouse of JohnFLOOD. Johns Death Certificate states about 40 years in the colony of NSW. Noted date of free cert. so in a quandary to determine period between January and May 1852. I do appreciate your input. Thanks

Died Forbes,NSW #9489/1886 aged 67

John Flood was 24 or 20 years old (his conduct record page states he was 20) on arrival in VDL. John was transported for stealing 100 pounds odd in sovereigns. John was 5'7 1/4" tall, could read and write, single, protestant, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, freckled, little finger of right hand crippled. Father: William Mother: Sarah Sisters: Sarah, Maria, Harriet Brothers: James, William. 5/3/1845: Released from fist stage of probation. 24/9/1850: TOL 9/1/1852: Free Certificate. 9/9/1852: Steerage passenger per 'Swift' Launceston to Melbourne - free by servitude. The death date listed above by John Hardman is the death date of John Flood who died at Forbes NSW of Intestinal Stenosis. The birth dates match quite well, but he married Mary Ann Ryan who was a Famine Orphan girl aged 16 (per Lady Peel 1849). They married 2/5/1852 and John didn't leave VDL until 9/9/1852. Dates are often wrong, but so far I haven't been able to link the 2 John Floods. Any more information is welcome.
