Extract from Hobart Town Gazette, of the 18th April 1871. Penal Establishment, Secretary's office, 15th April 1871. Enquiry has been made respecting William Wilcox Flowers, per Coromandel 2, who received a certificate of freedom on 7th Feb 1854. Tasmania Police Gazette, 21st April 1871, p68.




William Flower was listed as 45 years old on arrival. 17/7/1794: Baptised at Bitton, Gloucester, Eng. Father: Lamarack Flower Mother: Mary Place of Birth: Bristol. William was 5'7" tall, brown complexion, dark brown hair, black whiskers, hazel eyes. Was a constable in VDL but was dismissed for misconduct. 1841: Prisoner's Barracks, Hobart. Jan. 1845: TOL 5/10/1847: CP 7/2/1854: COF - he was working for himself. 14/2/1861: William died in Melbourne, Victoria., and was buried at the Melbourne General Cemetery.




Brother of Rebecca Flower who was hanged in 1820 at Gloucester, England, for the murder by arsenic poisoning of her husband, Thomas Worlock. An account of this was written by Penny Deverill called "Two Penn'oth of Poison"




He was married in 1817 in Bristol, Gloucestershire to Jean Sheppard. He is my 5th great-uncle.
