Patrick Fogarty was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Conflicting info. NSW index shows Patrick arriving on ship Earl Grey 1836. Convict list for Earl Grey shows Thomas Fogarty, not Patrick. Found Patrick on ship Waterloo 1836, but his birth year is 1800, not 1817 as genealogy research shows. Very confusing.




PLEASE IGNORE PREVIOUS COMMENT. Currently, there is no process for deleting duplicate entries. There were two entries for John Patterson so I am removing the entry I created today. The Printed Convict Indentures state that Patrick Fogarty was 35 years old. He could neither read nor write; religion Roman Catholic; status married with one son and 1 daughter and a native of County Tipperary. He was a farm servant. Patrick was convicted of manslaughter at Tipperary on 15 March 1836 and sentenced to life. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height - 5 feet 5 1/2 inches; complexion dark and pock pitted; hair dark brown mixed with grey and eyes bluish. Transport number 89. Prisoner number 36-1892.

He was a butcher. John was convicted of demanding money at Kildare on 21 March 1836 and sentenced to life. He had three prior convictions and served one month; two months and two weeks. Physical attributes: Height - 5 feet 7 3/4 inches; complexion dark; hair dark brown mixed with grey and eyes brown. Transport number 175. Prisoner number 36-1978. Received ticket of leave in 1844 (number 44/2809). Please note that there was no code for demanding money at time of this entry.
