ADM 101/23/71832 Medical journal of the Eliza, convict ship, from 19 March to 18 September 1832 by Thomas Bell, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the ship was employed in a passage from Cork to Sydney, New South Wales. Folios 60-63: case no 16, Malachy Foley, aged 15, boy; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, phthisis, he was five feet five inches high, grey eyes, light hair and fresh complexion of remarkable thin and delicate appearance native of Co. Clare, suffered from loss of appetite and constant cough before came on board, he was brought by one of his mess mate can give no statement of his feelings as he does not speak English, but from the hospital man I found that he has been long time subject to an affection of the chest says there is “decay in his family”,…Biggest pain was in his left side the blister was applied there; put on sick list 24 June 1832, died 30 June 1832 at 3 pm., [postmortem reported on folio 63].
