Jane Forbes was transported on the Lady Juliana, departing 31st May 1789 and arriving 3rd Jun 1790 with 247 passengers.
Launched 1777, 401 ton barque, built at Whitby, England. Departed Portsmouth, England on 29 July 1789, via Cape of Good Hope for Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia on 3 June 1790. 1790 voyage carried 226 female passengers (convicts)- 5 of whom died on the trip. 6 children also on board. Significant because it was the first ship to bring all female women to the Colony.

Convict Notes
Old Bailey t17870912-139 12/09/1787:- Jane was only 14 years old when she stole 8s from the pocket of Joseph Taylor's wife when she had gone to market. She was caught with her hand in her pocket! She was found guilty & sentenced to 7 years transportation. She was one of the youngest females on board the Lady Juliana bound for Port Jackson. It would appear that she formed an attachment to one of the sailor's onboard - William Carlo, as she cohabited with him in the colony. However, he left the colony in March 1791. Almost immediately following William's departure, she married William Butler, a 2nd Fleet convict from the Scarborough, on 13/03/1791. On 18/07/1791 William had served his sentence & was given a grant of 50 acres of land at Prospect Hill. Jane died in July 1795 as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic accident. She fell into the fire whilst preparing a meal. She is buried in St John's Cemetery, Parramatta, NSW.
