National Records of Scotland Title Precognition against George Pirie, John Fordyce, Andrew Harley, Charles Cowie for the crime of theft and housebreaking Dates 1819 Accused George Pirie, mariner, Address: Aberdeen John Fordyce, mariner, Address: Aberdeen Andrew Harley, mariner, Address: Aberdeen Charles Cowie, mariner, Address: Aberdeen Trial Papers of John Fordyce, Andrew Harley and George Pirie, present prisoners in the tolbooth of Aberdeen, for the crime of theft aggravated. Dates 29 September 1819 Description Libelled that (1) on 3rd August 1819, pannels broke into a dwelling house occupied by Elspeth Irvine or Davidson, wife of Andrew Davidson, presently a patient in the lunatic asylum at Aberdeen, being the East Porter's Lodge at Gordon's Mills Bleachfield in the parish of Old Machar and stole a silver watch, a pair of purple worsted stockings, a yellow flowered silk handkerchief, two pairs of white cotton stockings, a pair of man's green leather gloves and three shillings and six pence in silver. (2) on 4th August 1819, they broke into the dwelling house occupied by William Strathdee, quarrier residing at Braehead of Bridge of Dee, and stole 22 shillings in silver, an orange coloured silk handkerchief, a half coloured checquered silk handkerchief, a black silk handkerchief, a yellow and red figured silk handkerchief with a dark ground. (3) on 4th August 1819, they broke into a dwelling house occupied by Alexander Couper, labourer or quarrier residing at Balnagask in the parish of Nigg and stole a blue silk handkerchief, a yellow spotted silk handkerchief, a yellow and blue spotted silk handkerchief, a pair of shoes and a bottle contianing whisky and a sum of money. First day of trial: 29 September 1819 John Fordyce and Andrew Harley: Pleaded guilty. Sentenced to transportation beyond the seas for 14 years. George Pirie: Pleaded guilty of the first charge. Sentenced to imprisonment in the bridewell of Aberdeen for 18 months. John Fordyce was 15 years old on arrival in NSW. Convict Indent very difficult to decipher but John was 5'1" tall, ruddy complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes. Not listed on NSW Gov. Convict Records. 1820: NSW BDM - John Fordyce died, aged 16.
