George Forrester was convicted at Meerut, India for Insubordination - striking a superior officer, Sgt Turner of the 80th Regiment. Life sentence. Transported from Calcutta to Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Gazelle', arriving 07/04/1848. Had been a soldier in the 9th Regiment for 4yrs 6mths. Native place of birth - Co. Kildare, Ireland. Aged 25yrs; 5'11"; soldier/labourer; Roman Catholic; sallow complexion; brown curly hair; Hazel eyes; single man. 2yrs Probation at Cascades (south Hobart) 61 1/2 days gained by task work. Assignments at Cascades, Pittwater, Bridgewater, Lindisfarn, Kangaroo Point (Bellerive), Swan Island.
