Bernard Fox was convicted at Monaghan in July 1817 for burglary. Life sentence. Transported to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) on the ‘Minerva’ arriving 07/06/1817.

Aged 25yrs;labourer; native place - Co. Monaghan.

Newspaper Hobart Town Gazette 8 Jun 1822:”-Mr. C. Rofs Nairne was charged with fhooting at Bernard Fox, a convict holding a ticket of leave, as he was paffing along a road to his own home. The Court confidered there was not fuffieient reafon to justify Mr. Nairne’ firing, although it happened to be after dusk, yet as there appeared ro be no malice in the cafe, only directed Mr. Nairne to find security for his good behaviour, and to keep the peace for 6 calendar months.”

Conditional Pardon 07/06/1830

Newspaper Examiner 29 Apr 1875:“FOX-On 24th April at Jerusalem, Mr Bernard Fox In the 86th year of his age; he was an old colonist of 57 years.” (Presumed to be this person)

brother) b.1773 Ballynascreen, Co.Derry—were all transported for life for ‘Burglary and Robbery of Provisions’

24/11/1847: Married Maria McShane, daughter of Hugh McShane (Bernard was listed as a farmer and a batchelor) - they had 3 children.
Maria was previously married to Henry Rice (Admiral Cockburn 1819) - he died 13/8/1829 aged 38 - they had 1 child, Henry John Rice 1829-1888.

24/4/1875: Bernard died at Richmond Tas., from ‘Decay of nature’ .
