Convict Notes
9/9/1814 Chester Chronicle Cheshire, England: Assize Intelligence Peter Frank, aged 28, a black sailor, from Halifax, America, for feloniously taking away from the dwelling house of Martha Crouchley, of Higher Walton, a silver watch, and other articles. It appeared that the prisoner had been permitted to sleep in the house of the prosecutrix, with one of the men servants; that awaking early in the morning, he made his escape through a two story high window, taking with him the articles stated in the indictment.__The prisoner was subsequently apprehended in Liverpool, the stolen goods found on him, and a quantity of other property, belonging to persons not known. Verdict__Guilty. Peter Frank was listed as 30 years old on arrival in NSW. Native Place: Halifax. Peter was 5'7" tall, a negro. 8/6/1816 Hobart Town Gazette: PUBLIC NOTICE. THE under-mentioned Prisoners having absented themselves from their respective employments, all Persons are hereby cautioned against harbouring, concealing, or employing either of the said Absentees; Viz— Matthew Keegan ; Peter Franks (a coloured man); and Wm. Lee, a boy. And all Constables and others are hereby required to use every Exertion to apprehend and lodge them in safe custody. A. W. H. HUMPHREY, J. P.
