Per "Batavia", 1818; of Airds 1824 Aug 9 Memorial (Fiche 3088; 4/1837A No.355 p.385) Date 6 Sep 1824. the humble petition of John Franklin, free by Servitude, Sheweth That your Excellency’s Petitioner is by trade a blacksmith, arrived in this Colonyper Batavia in 1818 and has faithfully fulfilled his sentence 7 years with one master William Redfern Esquire of Patricks Plains. That he received his certificate of freedom in March last; & has now the means and is desirous of cultivating a farm if it should please your Excellency ….




Berkshire. John Simmons, John Franklin, and Richard Coleman, charged with stealing one wether sheep, the property of Fullerton, Esq of Winkfield —No Bill against Simmons; Franklin, guilty, death; Coleman, No Bill, Oxford University and City Herald, 8 March 1817. John Franklin, blacksmith, was capitally indicted for stealing, the 28th September last, one wether sheep, wether sheep, the properly George Follerton, Esq. from field in the parish Winkfield. Guilty Death. John Simmons and Richard Coleman, committed as accomplices in this offence, were discharged. Windsor and Eton Express, 2 March 1817.
