The surname by thay time generally was Frewen; William was charged with 'harbouring a felon' and his was among the first convictions under the new Coercion Act. His was a high profile case that led to much criticism of the government. In a separate trial/incident, ignoring the direction of the presiding judge, his brother John was convicted of murder and hanged in Limerick on 17 Aug 1849.
