Ann FULLER was convicted at Little Walsingham, Norfolk, England on 9 July 1852 for larceny - stealing money. Gaol report: previous similar conviction. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Duchess of Northumberland" arriving there 21 April 1853. Ship surgeon's report: "good, industrious". Married woman, 3 children; Proper name "Dawson"; dairymaid & country servant; aged 38 yrs; Protestant; can read; 5'0 3/4" height; sallow complexion; black hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Hertford, England. (ref. convict record) Husband: James (record does not state if Fuller or Dawson is her married name) Father: Henry (as above, surname is not recorded) Mother: Sarah Brothers: George, Ambraham & Exxxx Sisters: Emma, Eliza & A... Convict record does not state the names of her children or what happened to them at this point in time. No records located at the Orphan School, Hobart under either names. Colony of VDL: Assigned out to service work 1853: at J. Burdon, Argyle St. Hobart Clear good conduct record 30 May 1854: noted that she must serve at least 6mths more before Ticket of Leave considered. 28 Aug 1855: Ticket of Leave granted. 24 Dec 1855: Married Thomas SPURDON. 20 April 1858: Conditional Pardon approved. 2 June 1862: Free Certificate issued. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: (Note, the Govt in the Colonies, permitted and encouraged remarriages to provide a more stable social climate.) 27 November 1855 & 18 Dec 1855 Ann FULLER (Duchess of Northumberland) to Thomas SPURDON (free or free by servitude status). Approved. MARRIAGE: 24 Dec 1855 at St. John the Baptist Church, Sorell district - Ann FULLER, full age, spinster to Thomas SPURDON, full age, bachelor, labourer. Note: There was a convict Thomas SPURDEN transported on the "Westmorland" who was granted free status in 1853 who may be this person.
