Place of trial: Hobart Offense: Feloniously kill and slay George Gergison Verdict: Not guilty AB693-1-1 1877 The Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - 1954) Wed 11 Jul 1877 Page 2. THE MERCUBY. Mary Ann Burge was placed at the bar on a charge of manslaughter in causing the death by violence of George Gergison at Franklin on the 5th April last. The hearing of the case occupied some considerable time, but the medical evidence failed to prove that the death of Gergison was the result of the injuries inflicted by the woman Burge, and His Honor directed the jury to return a verdict of not guilty, and a verdict to that effect was accordingly
