The Cornwall Chronicle (Launceston, Tas. : 1835 - 1880) Sat 10 Aug 1844. Page 3. EXECUTIONS.—On Wednesday morning last, pursuant to sentence, James Gannon, (for rape), and Thomas Smith and James Boyle (for assault, with intent to murder their overseer, at the coal mines), suffered the extreme penalty of the law, at Hobart Town. The convicts died in the Roman Catholic faith.
