Reply, 19 Jul (Reel 6015; 4/3515 p.55) 1825 Nov 23 On list of persons who have received orders for grants of land (Fiche 3266; 9/2652 p.91); on list of lands granted and reserved by Sir Thomas Brisbane (Fiche 3269; 9/2740 p.13) ---------------------------------------------------- 4 Oct 1824. To His Excellency Sir Thomas Brisbane, etc…. The humble petition of Robert Gardener, Most respectfully states that Your Excellency’s Petitioner came to the Colony per ship Fortune in the year 1805 and is now free by servitude. That your Excellency’s Petitioner resides upon a farm that he purchased, maintaining his herd of cattle to the number of forty and fifty sheep on ground that he rents. That your Excellency’s Petitioner has a wife and one orphan child, that he has never received any Indulgence from Government and having a wish to settle himself more permanently, most humbly hopes Your Excellency will be pleased to locate to him such a quantity of Land as Your Excellency may consider him deserving of, from the recommendation of the undersigned, For which indulgence Petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray. Jane Gardner, or Cragg, age 55, F.S. per Sydney Cove, 5 years sentence, protestant. -------------------------------------------------- His wife Jane was transported on the Sydney Cove, as Jean Craig, tried at Glasgow.
