** TWO HENRY GASCOIGNE'S ON THIS VOYAGE - GASCOMB/GASCOIN/GASCOINE ** The other Henry Gascoine was tried at Hertford Assizes and was sent to VDL 28/9/1817. Henry Gascoigne was tried at Essex Assizes on 11/3/1816 - no crime listed. Colonial Secretary papers: GASCOIGNE, Henry. Per "Fame", 1817; a Henry Gascoigne and Henry Gascoine by this ship 1817 Mar 14: On list of convicts disembarked from the "Fame" and forwarded to Windsor for distribution (Reel 6005; 4/3496 p.53) 1821 Apr 16: On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle per "Elizabeth Henrietta" (Reel 6007; 4/3503 p.222) 1821 Sep: On monthly return of prisoners punished at Newcastle (Reel 6023; 4/1718 p.135) 1821: On list of convicts at Port Macquarie (Reel 6019; 4/3864 pp.344-5) 1821 Sep 12: On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle per "Elizabeth Henrietta" (Reel 6008; 4/3504 p.362) 28/7/1821: Absconded from Newcastle. 14/9/1827 Sydney Gazette: At the Police-office, on Tuesday last, a bushranger, named Henry Gascoigne Fame, was put to the bar under rather singular circumstances. He stated to the Court that he and two others, who are in custody, found their way to the Orphan School, where a bullock was hanging up that had been killed the preceding day. They proceeded to dissect the animal, but were observed by some person about the premises, who discharged a gun at them. Singular to relate, the ball pierced the hat of Fame in three diffèrent directions, carrying away part of the skull. No more than one gun was fired, which was charged with a single ball only. 15/9/1827: Parramatta: Runaway from an Iron Gang - 3 years transportation to a Penal Settlement - sent to Moreton Bay. On arrival at Moreton Bay, on 17/12/1827 Henry was described as: 32 years old, 5/7¼" tall, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes. Native Place: Worcestershire. One of the 2 Henry's was: 25/10/1831: Was an overseer at Norfolk Island.???? There were mentions of a Henry Gascoyne in NSW and Victoria but can't differentiate between the two.
