ADM 101/15/5 1827 Medical journal of the Cambridge, convict ship, for 10 May to 29 September 1827 by William Gregor, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed as a transport. Folios 24-28: Thomas Gately, aged 39, prisoner, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, singultus, while on deck complained through an interpreter (being unable to converse in any language, but his native Irish) that he had been affected with painful hiccups; put on sick list, 8 June 1827, died 18 June 1827 off Island of Palma.

Thomas Gately was transported from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia on the 'Cambridge' 1827 - he however died on the voyage (ship surgeon's log - singultus (hiccups) ). Note on record that he only spoke Irish Gaelic and did not understand English.
