Samuel Gatward was convicted of uttering forged bank Of England notes. He gave them to Sarah Matthews on 12th Feb. 1820 in Southwark, Surrey, England. A newspaper report from that time said he was living in Wild St, St Giles which is in the Holborn area of London. He was sentenced to death but that was obviously commuted to transportation for life.
