Proceedings of the Old Bailey trial date 1 December 1813
George Chambers was tried together with Thomas Lorman for the theft of two great coats, a hat and gloves from the Bath Hotel (near Hanover Square, London). The clothes had been left on a chair by two customers who were dining there. Three officers (possibly Bow Street runners) were in the area and one recognised Chambers and Lorman and decided to observe them. This led to the arrest and the officers taking the clothes back to the hotel for their identification as stolen property. Chambers and Lorman were charged with house-breaking but found guilty on the lesser charge of stealing Both were sentenced to 7 years transportation.
