Family connections for George (Cowell) are: COWELL George (Cowell) son of George (Cowell) & Mary Ann (???) was born about 1815 at Debden Essex. He was convicted of poaching at Essex Assizes, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 12 1838 after a voyage of 5months on PORTSEA. He was assigned to Bathurst district. He became a farm labourer & farmer at Queen Charlottes Vale, gaining his Ticket of Leave in 1843, & married Elizabeth (Anthony, maybe her second marriage) on 5 3 1844 at CofE Kelso. In January 1857 he purchased 15acres at Queen Charlottes Vale nr Bathurst & possibly became a respectable landholder. He died on 6 11 1858 age about47 at Queen Charlottes Vale & was buried at Bathurst: his farm at Queen Charlottes Vale passed to his wife & family. [Some information taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Anthony nee Waters) daughter of Joseph (Waters) & Mary (Williams) was born about 1820 at Swansea Glamorganshire. She apparantly had married & had children prior to coming to Australia & did arrive in NSW as a convict on 9 3 1839 after a voyage of 5months on PLANTER after being convicted at Glamorgan Assizes & sentenced to 7years. She moved to Bathurst from the Female Factory Parramatta in 1843 where she was assigned to Thomas (Mead) as a kitchenhand. She gained her Ticket of leave in 1844. She married secondly (2of3) George (Cowell) on 5 3 1844 at CofE Kelso. In 1858 she & her family inherited the Queen Charlottes Vale property from her then husband. She married a third time to Henry (Newell) on 25 8 1869 at Bathurst. She died in 1880 age about60 mother of more? than 8children at Bathurst. George Cowell was assigned to the Bathurst district. He gained a ticket of leave in 1843 and married another convict, Elizabeth Anthony, in 1844. They had 8 children. George bought a small farm at Queen Charlotte's Vale near Bathurst and seemed to become a respectable small landholder.
