The notorious George Elphinstone, who broke prison, during the sitting of the court at the last Pontefract Sessions, is safe lodged in Sheffield gaol having been taken in the act of robbing Mr. Jones's drapery ware-room, early on Friday morning last. Leeds Intelligencer, 16 Feb 1818. -------------------------------------------------- Monday morning, Mr. Justice BATH passed sentence on the prisoners convicted in the course of the preceding week. The following twenty-five prisoners received ... John Rangeley, Samuel Swaine, Joshua Nichols, Abraham Bions, William Dunning, Richard Clayburn, James Harrison, William Mellor, William Moseley, Sam. Hall, George Elphinstone, Wm. Wilson, James Norton, and Thomas Watts, for burglary ; ... Hull Packet, 24 March 1818. ————————————————————————— Monday last, the following fourteen male Convicts left York Castle, in order to be delivered on board the hulks lying at Sheerness, below Chatham, viz : George Elphinstone and William Moseley, commonly called Jenmpy, to be transported for life ; James Harrison. Thomas Watts, John Rangeley, Joshua Nichols, William Mellor, Samuel Hall, Thomas Wilson, Wm.
