George Lane joined the Masons and was one of the first Australian Masons in the Australian Social Lodge 260, under an Irish Charter, according to his obituary serving as the Tyler for many years. He was responsible for building the Hospital, which later became The Mint and NSW Parliament House in Macquarie St, Sydney. Lane married Bridget "Dinney" or "Deney" in 1804 in Sydney but she appears to have left Sydney in 1809. Around the same time Catholic Elizabeth Gill, Alias Frane, has arrived in Sydney as a convict and she has gone on to have at least 6 children with George, but never married him. He is mentioned occaisonally in the local newspaper through Trove. He died in Sydney in 1835 after falling into the quarry at Darling Harbour while intoxicated.
