George came out of his sentence with the trade waterman. He and his partner started their family in Hobart, them migrated to Lyttleton, New Zealand where more children were born. He plied his trade of waterman starting with a boat called "Just in time" ferrying passengers from large boats to the shore. he later became postmaster at LYttleton. After his partner Mary Messiter nee Sage died in 1875 he followed his son Richard to new South Wales. He died there in Kellys paddock, Belmore and is buried in the same grave as his son Richard
