Thomas was born in Tellisford, Somersetshire, England and he later lived in the nearby village of Road (now spelt Rode. He was married to Winifred Moore (c 1823) and had three children Henry (1823), Mary (1824) and William (1825). William was born in Road and it is likely that each of the children were born in Road. As such, it is also likely that Thomas worked as a Fuller, in one of the remaining wool mills still operating in Road at that time. However, by the middle of the 19th century the wool mills of Road were struggling, as a result of the industrial revolution and the invention of steam power, which caused the wool mills to move to a northern industrial centre. It may have been the loss of his job, from what would have been the main industry in the village, that pushed Thomas to committing the offence of housebreaking for which he was sentenced and later transported to Sydney Australia in 1831. Winifred and the children followed Thomas to Australia. Following the granting of his Ticket of Leave on 18/07/1841, he and Winifred had another child, Thomas in about 1842. Thomas' birth was not registered. As a condition of his ToL, Thomas was to remain in the district of Bathurst. He lived in Campbell's River, not far from the Bathurst township. His freedom, such as it was, was quite short. He died just three years later on 22/12/1844, likely as a result of an accident given his age (40) and that a postmortem was held into his death. He was buried in Kelso on 22/12/1844. Thomas George is my GGGG Grandfather and his son, William George, is my GGG Grandfather.
Brought his wife Winifred Moore and their 3 children.
